Volunteering opportunities with Culture Warrington

Culture Warrington is pleased to offer a variety of volunteering opportunities whatever your interest or availability. For those who are primarily interested in arts and entertainment we can offer roles as a Cultural Ambassador, as a Sales and Marketing Volunteer or as a Venue Management Assistant Volunteer. If heritage is more your thing then a variety of roles are available with opportunities in family history, outreach, reminiscence, research, cataloguing or transcription.

Volunteer Opportunities


Activities Volunteers
If you have an interest in arts and crafts you might like to become an Activities Volunteer and assist the Visitor Services Team in the preparation and delivery of craft activities for children, families and adults. Observing and working with a broad range of customers with a variety of needs you will assist in making our craft sessions welcoming and enjoyable.

Customer Service Greeter Volunteer
If you enjoy meeting and helping people then you might like to be a Customer Service Greeter Volunteer and welcome visitors to our venues. Working on the Box Office at Pyramid & Parr Hall or alongside the Visitor Services Assistants at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery this role will allow you to use and develop your customer-facing skills. You will also get an opportunity to assist the Sales and Marketing Team with the promotion of Culture Warrington’s events, exhibitions and activities.

Digitisation and Cataloguing Volunteers (We currently have a waiting list for this position due to high demand)
If you enjoy working with IT and would welcome the opportunity to handle items from the museum and archive collections you might consider becoming a Digitisation and Cataloguing Volunteer. Digitisation and Cataloguing Volunteers assist the museum and archives staff with the cataloguing, indexing and digitisation of items from the collections i.e. microfilms, photographs and ephemera. Digitisation and Cataloguing Volunteers also scan, research and index items from the collection, gathering information and adding details to our databases to enable researchers to access information more efficiently.

Family History Volunteers
If you have an interest in family history and have a couple of hours to spare a week you may consider becoming a Family History Volunteer and assist members of the public with their online family history searches. Our Family History Volunteers will advise on the use of family history resources such as Ancestry and support members of the public in finding answers to the questions they have been struggling with.

Outreach Volunteers
If you enjoy working with the public and you’re available at weekends during the spring and summer months you might consider becoming an Outreach Volunteer to assist Culture Warrington staff in promoting Culture Warrington at events and engaging with the community.

Reminiscence Volunteers
If you enjoy working with other volunteers and are available for a couple of hours a month you might like to become a Reminiscence Volunteer and encourage participation in memory groups.

Research Volunteers (We currently have a waiting list for this position due to high demand)
If you have an interest in historical research and are able to spare up to two hours a week you might consider becoming a Research Volunteer and assist the museum and archive staff in conducting research into items from the museum and archive collections. Our Research Volunteers also assist with the arrangement, sorting and description of collections to help improve cataloguing processes.

Sales and Marketing Volunteer
If you have an interest in developing your skills and knowledge within a busy marketing environment you might like to work as a Sales and Marketing Volunteer and assist our sales and marketing staff promote events, exhibition and activities across Culture Warrington venues. Our Sales and Marketing Volunteers can also assist with digital marketing, creating online content and helping maintain a strong online presence.

Transcription Volunteers (We currently have a waiting list for this position due to high demand)
If you are interested in history and enjoy working from home then you might like to become a Transcription Volunteer and transcribe information from digitised sources into other forms, e.g. typing information from scanned historical documents into a spreadsheet. Most Transcription Volunteers can work from home and need only attend monthly meetings but some Transcription Volunteers will act as coordinators and be a contact point between the Culture Warrington staff and other volunteers working on transcription projects.
